Is chevron going to be the shag carpet of our generation? Will our grandkids look at photos of our houses and say “Why were you guys so obsessed with zig zags?” Whatever. I don’t care. These DIY chevron bookmarks are seriously cute. I kind of want to make a zillion of them…
want to learn how to make one too? great!
-4 strips of paper that are identical in width (a paper slicer comes in super handy)
-your iPhone to show off how super cute your bookmark turned out when it’s done
Here we go. Cut two strips of each color you choose. Both sides of the paper will be visible – so plan accordingly.
Next, glue the two strips of your first color together. Make sure the ends are lined up pretty perfectly. Then lay your second color up against the top strip of your first color, glue it into place.
Glue the other second color strip into place like so. Here’s the hardest part… wait for the glue to dry. It will save you a world of heartache, but you’ll be so excited that it will feel like years before it’s ready to start folding.
Glue’s dry? Great! Pull the top right strip down and line it up with the left side strips. Check that the end of the strip is snug against the others. As you pull it down tighter, use your nail or a credit card to crease the fold well.
Now continue this pulling and folding, alternating sides, always pulling the top color down to the opposite side. When you’re bookmark is as long as you want it to be, fold each strip to the back side of the book mark and glue them into place together. (I forgot to take photos of this step.) If you fold the strips in the right order, you’ll maintain the chevron pattern on the back side too. Just try it a few different ways until it looks right.
Voila! Ain’t she cute? Now go read something so you can use your awesome new bookmark!
